John married Barbara Watts (born 1757, Virginia.) Barbara was the daughter of Joel Watts and Isabelle Kapler. The will of Joel Watts dated 17 July 1781 (Culpepper Co. Will Book B. pg. 440) mentions his wife, Isabel, and children Frederick, Lettice Brown, Joanna Stewart, Barbara Thomas and grandchildren John Thomas, Larkin Thomas children of Barbara.

John and Barbara had at least four children including Joel Thomas.

Joel married Margaret Kennedy 02 Jan 1790, Mercer Co. Kentucky. Joel’s name was listed as Joseph in the marriage record, but most accounts give his name as Joel. Joel and Margaret had nine children including Elzeaphus Thomas.

Elzeaphus married Ruth A. Rolston 01 Nov 1830 in Bath Co., Kentucky. Ruth was the daughter of John Ralston and Elizabeth Neely. Ruth was born 01 Aug 1809, Kentucky and died 22 Jan 1876, Putnam Co., Indiana. She is also buried in Union Chapel Cemetery, Morton, Putnam Co., Indiana.

Elzeaphus and Ruth had eleven children including John H. Thomas.

Margrette (known as Maggie) married Charles Wesley Gibon 22 Dec 1887. Charles was the son of Truman Wallace Gibson and Tymandra Josephine Key. Margarette and Charles divorced shortly after 1910. She remarried George Curtis Reynolds.

Margrette and Charles had three children including Beulah Irene Gibson.
