This Gibson family descends from Thomas Gibson

Thomas Gibson born 1690 West Fallowfield, Chester Co., Pennsylvania; died abt. Jul 1783, Chester Co., Pennsylvania.

Almost every living Gibson in the world is descended from Lord Thomas Gibson of Goldingstones, obviously excepting those who were adopted or changed their surname. Many Gibsons in the United States, especially the New England area, are descended from immigrant John Gibson of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Others descend from one of the seven George Gibsons, with many immigrating to the south and then westward, especially to Kentucky, Indiana and Texas. Thomas may not be the son of John and Anne St. Clair GIbson, but he certainly fits into this family somewhere.

According to the estate papers of Thomas, he died leaving a total of seven children. Thomas was married to Mary (last name unknown). One of Thomas and Mary’s sons was Andrew Gibson.

Andrew Gibson born 1708, County Derry, Ireland; died 25 Oct 1803, West Bradford, Chester Co., Pennsylvania; buried Chester Co., Pennsylvania, Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Andrew’s wife was Margaret Weldin. Andrew and Margaret had 10 children, one of whom was Andrew Gibson.

Andrew Gibson born abt 1749; died 07 Mar 1808; buried in Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware, Newark Union Cemetery.

Andrew lived in Brandywine Hundred, New Castle Co., Delaware in 1800. In 1778 he (next to Jacob Weldin) signed an oath of allegiance to the state of Delaware. In 1782, we was in Brandywine Hundred with three males over 18, two females over 18, two males under 18, and one female under 18. The will of George Robinson, farmer, of Brandywine Hundred, dated 12 December 1784, named his “kinsman” Andrew Gibson as executor. As his father named him executor, he must have lived not far, and thus was, no doubt, the Andrew Gibson, “Esq.,” living in Brandywine Hundred, New Castle Co., Delaware, in 1800.

Andrew’s will was signed 04 Apr 1799 and probated in Chester Co., Pennsylvania 07 Nov 1803.

Andrew was married to Hannah Weldin, daughter of Joseph Weldon and Margaret Robinson. Andrew and Hannah were known to have had at least two sons, one of whom was named Joseph Gibson.

Joseph married Nancy Bird, daughter of Thomas Bird and Mary Babb. Nancy remarried John Twaddell. Joseph and Nancy had three children, one of whom was Andrew Gibson.

Andrew Gibson born 01 Jan 1813, Brandywine, New Castle Co., Delaware; died 31 May 1845, Putnam Co., Indiana; buried Union Chapel, Morton, Putnam Co., Indiana.

Andrew married Jane H. Rambo 16 Sep 1835, New Castle Co., Delaware. Jane was the daughter of Richard French Rambo and Sarah Ware. Andrew and Jane had five children, one of whom was Truman Wallace Gibson.

Truman Wallace Gibson born 18 Aug 1840, probably Putnam Co. Indiana; died 18 Jan 1918, Greencastle, Putnam Co., Indiana; buried Union Chapel, Morton, Putnam Co., Indiana.

Truman Wallace married Tymandra Josephine Key 02 Jun 1858, Putnam Co., Indiana. Tymandra was the daughter of Bolin Key and Thersa Wysong. Truman Wallace and Tymandra had ten children, one of whom was Charles Wesley Gibson.

Charles Wesley Gibson born 06 May 1868, Morton, Putnam Co., Indiana; died 21 Dec 1959, Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., Indiana; buried Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis Marion Co., Indiana.

Charles Wesley married Margrette “Maggie” Thomas 22 Dec 1887, Putnam Co., Indiana. Margrette was the daughter of John H. Thomas and Mary E. Davidson. Charles Wesley and Margrette were divorced about 1910. Charles Wesley remarried Emma (last name unknown) and Margarette remarried George Curtis Reynolds. Charles Wesley and Emma did not have children. Margarette and George Curtis did not have children. Charles Wesley and Margarette had three children, one of whom was Beula Irene Gibson.
